Making the decision to go green when cleaning isn’t as scary or hard as it sounds. In fact many of the essential natural ingredients to clean with are most likely already in your pantry. If not, they are very economical and can be found at your local supermarket. 

Here are the natural ingredients I always have on hand.

LEMONS – best for removing stains and odours. Lemons are great for removing stains and odours in your kitchen. Use a half a lemon to run over surfaces and items that may have a smell such as onion or fish. Use lemons in a all purpose cleaning mix to freshen and clean as you go- its safe for food prep areas as well.

WHITE VINEGAR –  used for stain removing and disinfectant. White vinegar can form the basis of many multipurpose cleaning mixes. It is a powerful disinfecting agent so perfect for spots where germs may be such as bench tops, door handles and the garbage bin.

BAKING SODA – best for scrubbing and whitening. Baking Soda can me made into a paste to remove stains in sinks, bath tubs and on bench tops. Place a box of Baking Soda in your fridge or cupboard to remove odours.

PLANT ESSENTIAL OILS – derived from plants, essential oils are readily available and work wonders for a clean home and for your well being. Be sure to choose a brand that chooses to source their ingredients sustainably.

SALT – used for scrubbing. Rock salt is the perfect size and texture to be used for scrubbing.

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE – used for disinfecting and removing stains. Combine with baking soda to form a paste and apply to mildew. Allow to sit for a few minutes and wipe away.
