Simple, elegant, eco-friendly furniture, there’s so much to love about Plyroom – find out why!

Who is the owner of Plyroom Eco and Us

At Eco and Us we are all about community, hence, I love sharing a bit about our fabulous business owners and what makes them tick. Today we go behind the scenes of Plyroom and hear Elise’s story of what inspired her to bring to Melbourne the most beautiful eco-friendly, simply designed furniture.

Tell us a little about yourself

I love cooking, hiking and all things Italian. I am saddened by road rage and over-cooked pasta. I’m mum to two soccer-mad boys who never stop bouncing balls in the house. We live in Melbourne and spend lots of time in our veggie-patch.

Tell us about your biz

Plyroom started when we moved over to Italy for a year. It is based on the idea of simplifying our homes and our living choices so we really focus on the essentials – whatever it is that is most important to us. I like the idea of creating homes that are understated, make you feel good, and stand the test of time.

What’s your non-negotiable eco or health wise?

Compost compost compost. And no takeaway coffees.

What’s your favourite everyday eco product?

I love Eco Store Shampoos and Conditioners. They are my absolute favourite.

Go to snack?

A generous handful of salted, oven-roasted almonds, cashews and pecans. My sister in law got me on to them and now everyone at Plyroom is obsessed, the jar gets refilled very frequently.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I’d love to learn to play the guitar.

If you won unlimited access to a service for a year to make your life easier / less stressful what would you choose?

Probably a cleaner – boring but important to my sanity.

What was the last book you read?

Hot Milk, by Deborah Levy. I loved it. A beautiful sensory exploration and unfurling of a complex mother-daughter relationship.

What is your proudest accomplishment (personal or business related)?

Finishing the Oxfam 100km Trailwalker this year. It was the second time I attempted it. The first time I was 24 and pretty naïve about what was required. This time I was a fair bit older and a lot wiser, and we made it!

What do you do to relax?

I love to cook and get out of the city – put me somewhere in the bush with hiking boots and I’m happy.

What does the future of Plyroom look like?

We love our showroom in Northcote so I have every intention of staying here. I’m also looking forward to more events and experiences that relate to our ethos of simplicity.
